About

This blog is about me and what I get up to. It really is for my consumption – but who knows, maybe others will find it slightly interesting. I have decided to make it in blog form as I am extremely bad at updating and keeping backups of things – I am sure wordpress will do a better job. I also kind of like the idea that this will be around after I die – as I am forty and in decent health, there is no reason to assume I am dieing anytime soon – but hell, some record of me of my efforts out on the interweb does put a smile on my face.

I did start a paid for blog called The Frugal Fox – with some idea’s of making some holiday cash out of it – ja, right. This one’s goals are a lot more achievable – try post once a week – make it an online diary, at the very least I will find it interesting when I get older!

I think I will keep with the “Frugal Fox” idea – at this stage I would rather keep my real identity hidden – I can probably be a bit freer with my thoughts and views that way. Not that I think it would worry me that much if close friends found out about this site – but some of my views on the ANC and humans in general might not go down that well with some.

But in a nutshell, I am in my early 40’s and live in a smallish town outside Cape Town, South Africa. I am married, but we have decided not to have children – do have a couple of lovely, dogs though. Breeds? Hmm, lets call them hybrids and we will call them M&S.

I have managed to retire – but only just and pretty much on a shoestring budget. I had a few small shops in a few small towns – but when the large chain shops moved in I chose to close up. I came out with about triple what I put in – hardly a great investment over 7 years – but better than a kick in the teeth. After playing around with the figures I worked out that I might, by the skin of my teeth, retire for life. A big part of this is because there is a small trust paying out enough for me for 6 months living – and I just had to make the other 6 months.
So I will be blogging about my day to day life as well as my interests and hobbies. We do like taking my motor bike out on weekends – so will add a few trip reports. And I will probably add general thoughts on South Africa as well. But this, for me, is more a planning and documenting tool – so although I will try to review what I write – expect a ton a grammatical errors.
